Vida's record in the House

Our advocate for better education. Rep. Vida Miller received the Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award in 2006 from the SC School Counselor's Association and the SC School Administrators Association. She is also the first member of the S.C. General Assembly to receive the Legislator of the Year Award for two consecutive years from the SC School Board's Association (1999 and 2000). Her leadership role in introducing and passing the Tax Increment Financing Act allows counties and municipalities to enter into redevelopment projects without a local tax increase while protecting local school tax revenues generated by new development. She also was a floor leader in passing the state's Education Bond Bill, which brought back over $10 million in state dollars to Georgetown County schools.

Vida is our environmental steward. Vida fought in Columbia to put the Santee Delta Wildlife Refuge back in the hands of the public. Her tenacity also rewarded Georgetown County with $1.3 million in beach renourishment funding. Because she introduced the Real Estate Transfer Bill, Georgetown County was able to keep over $2 million to purchase land for public use. Vida Miller believes we can have economic growth while protecting our natural resources. She's dedicated to continue her efforts on behalf of the environment.

Vida is focused on economic development. Vida's first priority was to locate funding for the widening of U.S. Highway 521. In less than three years, it became a reality as the first section has been completed and funding has been secured for the Andrews bypass. Vida worked to secure other road improvements, such as the reconfiguration of the South Causeway, additional traffic lights and resurfacing projects throughout the district. Vida continues to work diligently on these needs to ensure Georgetown County can attract new industry and well-paying jobs.

Vida's leadership. She's also been a key leader in Columbia at the Statehouse:

  • Chairman of the Georgetown County Legislative Delegation - 9 years
